Rev. & Mrs. Henry Mantonya
Missionaries to Amazon Interior Brazil

July 2010

From the desk of Nancy Mantonya ...

The last we wrote was before I had surgery for a hernia that has bothered me for over 40 years. My stomach was entirely in my chest, so by laparoscopic surgery the doctor was able to bring it back down, sewing in a mesh to keep it there. I went home 2 days later, but Jake had to take me to E.R. the 16th for severe dehydration, kidney failure and blood pressure 60/30, so was admitted to Cardio Vascular ICU, where I stayed through the 20th. James arrived the day I got out of the hospital, and was a big help to Jake and blessing while I recuperated. He stayed through June 15th and is now back home with his family.

We have a new great-granddaughter! Liberty Anne Summerfield arrived June 17th to Sarah & Greg and her brother Lincoln. Jayme and Bethany arrived from Brazil the 16th (barely in time!) but they made it to see Jayme's 2nd grandchild and Beth's niece, praise  the Lord! We now have 2 great grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter, and another on the way sometime in September (Jen and Antonio's 1st) along with Guilerme Henrique (William Henry) whom they adopted. Robin is making plans to help with the delivery. Jen asked her, "Mom, can't I have this baby just like our ladies do in the tribe?" Jen and Antonio will be coming to Porto Velho as there are a couple churches that want him to speak and present his burden for the Jamamadi people in Bausi (4-6 hours from our village). So we might have a great-granddaughter born in our house! Wouldn't that be great!! God is so good, and we are forever thankful for His rich blessings on our lives.

We will be meeting Jayme, Bethany and possibly Rachel in Orlando, along with Sarah, Greg, Lincoln and "Libby" for 3 days, as we'll be leaving for Brazil from there.  We are anticipating 3 days of "hanging out with our kids" (as Sarah put it).

We sold our car! It was very interesting how that turned out! As always, our ways aren't like God's ways, and He sometimes has a sense of humor to offset our well laid-out plans. James helped us get signed up on eBay, took pictures of the interior and exterior of the car, etc. I faxed off the information which was refused because of addresses - ours didn't jive with driver's license and place of residence. So while we were waiting on eBay, we decided to buy signs at Walmart. While Jake was putting one up, a neighbor, also a missionary to Brazil, came over and asked if the car was really for sale. Jake said yes, and she asked if her husband could look the car over. He drove it for over an hour and that afternoon he, his wife and son all drove it, liked it and made application to buy it. Their loan was approved, and now our car is sold. But that isn't all! He said that he and his family will be traveling until the first of August, and the car would just be parked, so we can use it until they got back. And, he will meet us in Orlando on the 3rd! Isn't our Lord great! We thought we'd have to rent a car after selling ours. We are so blessed!

We are busy packing, unpacking and repacking our bags. We found out that Copa Airlines will not allow us to have over 2 bags each, so we will have to probably ship our extra baggage. Jayme will return to Brazil the 6th of August, and said she could take the excess. This is the part of traveling I do not like! One night at Wilson Creek Baptist Church in Springfield MO, Pastor Moody was preaching about when the Lord returns, that we don't have to worry about taking our things with us! I almost had a Pentecostal meeting in my seat right then and there! Just think! We don't have to pack, unpack, and repack to get the weight just right! Everything will just stay where it is, and we won't even give a 2nd thought about it! I am ready for that day!

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for us, and financial support. We wouldn't be able to do the job without you. That is why each one of you are special to us. May the Lord richly bless you and your loved ones, and the work you are doing for the cause of Christ.

In Christian Gratitude, Nancy and Jake
